Am I correct in thinking that there isn't content for this on the 6 dvds I own? Do I download free (or otherwise) content from the Ableton site.Live 9 Suite from Ableton is a solid update to the company's "think different" DAW software that is particularly popular with electronic and beat making creators. With M4L, I have downloaded and installed this. I've come from Live 6 intro so this is all new to me. What's the copyright on this? Can I use melodies and snippets on these in my own recordings? I guess you have no end of fun moving things around in the piano roll and really messing with them. Love all these piano demos, metallic pipes, drum kits made using operator - it's fantastic. I had a chance to listen to some of this content this afternoon and it really sounds fantastic. There's a nice list appearing alongside my core library.
There is no quick way it seems - steadily work through them. What I've now done is set the path for the packs in preferences to a folder on the external and now I am working my way through installing these packs one by one. I basically was getting to the stage where everything was taking up twice the space it should!

I then had to install this content that I had copied onto my hard drive. I got in a bit of a mess at first and thought that I could copy all these samples and packs from the discs to my external. Sorry for delay getting back - been busy with DVDs and whirring drives! Thanks everyone for your help with this - I really do appreciate it. Samples, all packs and the projects I'm working on on the external. Live, M4L, VSTs and Live's temporary folder on the internal drive. Which is something your drive will probably handle without problems by the way unless you have really huge projects open. Partitioning your drive wouldn't help, the multiple drive setup is just to avoid having one drive reading and writing data at the same time. So no problem at all if you just have one external drive.
I've been using Live professionally for some years now (I do music production for theater and dance performances) and so far no problems. I used to run everything, application, plugins, samples, recording from just the internal drive for a long time without any problems. The 3 drive setup Ableton writes about is really just if you want the "optimum configuration", it is not required at all.
You can put the M4L packs on a different drive but I don't think it will be necessary since the packs are really small. I would put M4L itself (the application) on the internal drive of your computer.
